Great article about the realities of sports bras

Mom to the Screaming Masses: Sports Bras and Me
http://momtothescreamingmasses.typepad.com/mom_to_the_screaming_mass/2012/02/sports-bras-and-me.html

This topic is really only of interest to the female crowd. That’s not to say that I would discourage any male readers - but, you know, you might be WAY more comfortable coming on back tomorrow. This is a discussion of boobies, yes, to be sure - but I will venture to say it’s NOT scintillating in any way, shape or form. :)

I have a love/hate relationship with work out bras. I love them for what they do - if they are utilized correctly, they reduce or even eliminate bounce, making the wearer far more comfortable as she goes about her exercise. Especially if she’s doing something high impact - I’ve been known to scream (in my car, only in my car, and not at random women running down the street) “For the love of God, get a supportive bra on! It hurts just to watch you run!!”

Scientists say that sports bras are good for you!

Errrr, really?
Three Benefits Sports Bras Offer Female Athletes | Neurological ...
http://www.theneuroassociates.com/three-benefits-sports-bras-offer-female-athletes/

By wearing a comfortable sports bra during physical activity, female athletes can protect themselves from unnecessary back pain. When females run or engage in physical activity, the breasts will often bounce. This can place excessive strain on certain back muscles. If a sports bra is present to properly support the breasts and keep them from moving, back pain and back injury can effectively be avoided. A sports bra can also help female athletes maintain better posture, which is highly effective at decreasing back pain and muscle spasms.

Travelling sports bra

Just goes to show that sports bras are not just needed in the gym

Sports bra - Lonely Planet travel forum
http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thread.jspa?threadID=2159253

To my great dismay my ancient Shockabsorber sports bra broke (metal hook snapped off) this morning. I feared it was on it’s way out being ancient sort of gave that away. So I’ve already been to several sports shops but all they seem to sell are those sports bra you pull over your head. Not only is that contraption hideous to get on/off but I’ve yet to find one that provide appropriate anti-bounce measurement (I had several before I found the Shockabsorber).

So to save me the pain of having to go in and ask in every single shop - is there a brand (sold in Australia) that have a sports bra that you put on like a normal bra, ie with hooks on the back (well on the side a bit to be precise to avoid hurting if you do sit-ups)?

Don't think you need a sports bra for yoga? Think again

You need a sports bra for yoga too!

Yoga: 90 Minutes Of Demanding Yoga In 105 Degrees
http://www.neontommy.com/news/2012/02/bikram-yoga-downtown-la-0

I thought, “what did I get myself into?” as I watched toned and tattooed experienced yogis leave the room armed with only sports bras, spandex shorts, towels and water. I had a right to be concerned. Bikram classes are 90 demanding minutes of yoga in 105 degrees. You’re going to sweat. A lot. That’s only if you don’t pass out first.

Article: Finding the Right Sports Bra

Great article on finding the right sports bra

Finding the Right Sports Bra
http://exercise.about.com/b/2012/02/02/finding-the-right-sports-bra.htm

Sports bras are dangerous creatures, willing to squeeze, compress, chafe, wrestle and even bite unsuspecting female chests into submission. As any exercising woman knows, just getting them on and off is a workout in its own right, and feeling the pain of in ill-fitting sports bra can turn an already challenging workout into a disaster.

I’ve also updated my Best Sports Bras for Women and created a couple of new top picks for Sports Bras for Full Figures and Sports Bras for Smaller Chests to offer some suggestions for popular sports bras.

I’m sure my lists fall woefully short, so please feel free to post a review of your favorite sports bra to flesh things out a little.

The $4.75 Sports Bra!

Fuscia

I’m always on the lookout for the perfect sports bra.  If I’m doing an intense workout,  I want to stay as cool as possible while still feeling like I look cute!  My outfit of choice is just a sports bra and knee-length leggings.  (Being able to be a little less covered up is one of my favorite things about working out at home.)  The perfect bra, to me, has the following qualities:

  • Cute
  • Comfortable
  • Supportive
  • Flattering
  • Doesn’t allow any “show through”
  • Has a little padding

Lucy, Lululemon, and Marika all have some nice options.  However, they average about $50 per bra!  So a few weeks ago, I decided to try out one of the cheapest options I found anywhere:  the Seamless Sports Bra on Amazon from somewhere called FineBrandShop, for only $4.75!   It had some good reviews, so at that price, it was worth a try.  I got it in black, although there are lots of pretty colors.  While I wouldn’t call it “perfect,”  to my surprise, it’s actually pretty great!

The fabric of the bra is really soft.  It reminds me, in fact, of the pieces I have from Beyond Yoga, which are about ten times the price!  It fits all of the requirements on my list—even the padding, which is hard to find in a cheap sports bra.  My only complaint is about the straps—I wish they were a little thicker and looked less like actual lingerie bra straps.  They’re not uncomfortable–I would just like the bra to look a little more athletic.  For $4.75 I can live with it, but I’d pay a few more dollars for some straps.

There is one major caveat about these bras—they come in only one size!  I guess that’s part of keeping the cost low.  These bras are definitely for the small to medium-chested.  I’m a 34B, and the fit is perfect.  I think it could work up or down a size in either direction, although if you’re much larger, I doubt these would fit or give you enough support.  But if you’re not sure, for the price, it may be worth giving it a shot.

For some reason, although these bras are all sold by the same company and come in a lot of different colors, they’re all listed on different pages!  I put links to them below by color:

Article: David Beckham to Please the Ladies with Underwear Ad During Super Bowl

David Beckham to Please the Ladies with Underwear Ad During Super Bowl
http://larrybrownsports.com/sports-business/david-beckham-superbowl-underwear-ad/111605

Those of you who are Giants, Patriots, Ravens, or Niners fans could end up focusing on one thing and one thing only come Sunday, Feb. 5. The rest of us will be enjoying the best day of the year and — per usual — the best commercials of the calendar year. Good news for the portion of the population that has always wanted to see David Beckham in his underwear during the big game: you’ll get your wish during the second quarter this year.

According to the Mirror, the H&M clothing company has put up an estimated $1 million to have Beckham appear in a 30-second commercial wearing nothing but his skivvies. Of course, Beckham will be showcasing H&M’s “David Beckham Bodywear” collection.

“Over the past year, I’ve been developing my Bodywear range with my team and I’m extremely positive about what we have designed and produced,” Beckham said. “The final piece in the jigsaw was a retail partner who has the vision and capability to distribute these products globally. In H&M we have found the perfect partner to collaborate with going forward.”

As the Mirror pointed out, the largest audience Beckham was ever seen by came during the 2002 World Cup, when roughly 1.6 billion people watched a match between England and Brazil. To my knowledge, Beckham was not alone and in his underwear during that broadcast. An estimated two billion people will see him in that state during the Super Bowl. If anyone has the confidence to pull it off, it’s Becks.
